Vie for the Tide

tide

 The moon pulls

From under the deep

Where starfish dance

And mermaids sleep

Night after night

Tide to the shore

The ocean responds

When the moon wants more

He is admired

Gentle and bright

All look to him

In dark of night

Everyone’s fooled

By his reflection bejeweled

Controlled by fear

She is glass and mirror

Ocean and moon

Moon and ocean

Year after year

Endless motion

Centuries passed

Before anyone asked

Why does the moon pull on the sea?

Why can’t he just let her be?
