State of Mind

by Carly

She could look across the ocean

And see the world forever.

If you ever wanted her to leave

She would answer “never”.

She could not escape the rain

That came every day.

Her grass was always green,

But her eyes were always grey.

Sometimes her clouds would break

And the yellow sun would shine

Tracing footsteps on the beach

In a timid, staggered line.

The breeze that kept the kites

Flying in the sky

Also was the wind

That made the trees all cry

Her forest was filled with

Life and sound,

But if you looked closely

No melodies could be found.

She could look across the ocean

And see the world forever.

If you ever wanted her to leave,

She would answer “Never”.
